Food Additives
From AlexWiki
There is so much crap in the food that we eat that is horrible for our health that it is not even funny. These things have been linked to diabetes, hypothyroid condition, calcification of various organs, and more. The purpose of this page is to educate my friends (and anyone else who reads this) as to each of these additives and why they should be avoided. There will be a Do Not Eat page listing consumable products that you should not use because of their use of these unnatural chemicals.
In its current form this page is merely a shell. Anything with a ?? in parenthesis after it has not been checked for validation. I simply don't have the time right now to do so, but will check everything for accuracy as soon as possible.

Aspartame (Nutrasweet)
Aspartame, better known by its brand name of Nutrasweet is an artificial sweetener created by ??????? in ?????. It is used in all(?) the diet drinks marketed and produced by both The Coca Cola Company and Pepsico(tm). When you ingest this chemical it gets broken down into two compounds, one of them being the neurotoxin(?) Formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a carcinogen, that is, something that is known to cause Cancer, yet it continues to be put into almost everything out there. There are products that have High Fructose Corn Syrup and Sugar and yet still for some reason have Aspartame in them. All of Wrigley's Chewing Gum products have now secretly added aspartame to their products. It is virtually impossible to go to the mint/chewing gum aisle of a convenience store and find a product that DOES NOT contain aspartame. I think Certs is the only product in that group that I've seen that does not yet contain aspartame. Aspartame consumption in large amounts has also been linked to Hypothyroidism and in fact has caused this in one of my friend's parents and I suspect it to be the cause in several other cases of Hypothyroidism as well.
Now I know what you're thinking. I am not a doctor. Well, I know that none of these problems existed before the past couple centuries. People with hypothyroidism cannot live unless they take medication for the rest of their lives. This medication did not exist(??) before the turn of the 20th century. So you tell me? Go find a case of hypothyroidism that dates back past 108 years.
Sucralose (Splenda)
Sucralose, better known by its brand name of Splenda is an artificial sweetener marketed to "taste like sugar, because it's made from sugar." This same marketing slogan also implies that since it's made from sugar it must be safe, or just like sugar in some way. The problem with this statement is that it is a total outright lie. Sucralose is not made from sugar.
To be continued.
Saccharin
Known to cause cancer (another artificial sweetener)
High-fructose corn syrup
Corn syrup that has been processed to increase the amount of fructose in it. This is extremely bad for you, and has been linked to the epidemic of diabetes in this country. I also have heard that the FDA is trying to ban it but it is difficult because it's used in everything. (I have to check on this)
Carmine
Carminic acid taken from Cochineal beetles to produce a red food dye. This is known to cause anaphylactic shock in a small percentage of people who may be allergic to it. The acid itself is the insect's venom which is its defense mechanism against predators who would eat the beetle. While it is not lethal to humans it is another example of a "visual" oriented society who cares more about how things look than whether or not they are good for you. Carmine itself refers to the actual color. More on this later.
I owe much of the information I have on Carmine and my knowledge of it to Megan Verner who presented a speech about it in my Speech 101 class.
